Rifflet

"Rifflet claims to be the home for unfinished songs. Basically, anyone can upload a riff or soundclip, and anyone else can listen to and download that clip, add to it, enhance it, use it, etc -- sort of an open community audio blog, as it incorporates Creative Commons license terms into the experience.

Kinda interesting. There are a lot of 'free sound banks' and 'collaborative song writing' sites around, this is sort of a spin off those concepts. (Think Free Sound Project, Kompoz, SoundSnap, Splice, etc.) Good stuff..."

"IndieFlix, a marketplace for independent films, has launched MyFestival, a new streaming video site that will let film festivals crowdsource the movie selection process. MyFestival is making its debut in conjunction with the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF), which is taking place from May 22 to June 15.

For MyFestival’s pilot trial at SIFF, users will be able to stream and vote for any of ten films and ten shorts for free from nowPublish Post until June 8. After the deadline, the votes will be tallied and the winning film will be screened during the one of the festival’s most prized time slots. Even the losers get something out of the deal - the site provides detailed demographic responses that let filmmakers tweak their distribution plans. The site has already forged deals with a number of other festivals, and major venues like Sundance are watching the results closely.

Getting a screening at a film festival can be very competitive, even with hundreds of festivals in the United States annually. Even if a film is screened, getting distribution is considerably more difficult - less than 1% of American films find meaningful distribution. IndieFlix CEO Scilla Andreen says that a new voting system could help expose many of these films to a much broader audience, with the ultimate goal of giving the audience a s"

New Video: Scarlett Johansson, "Falling Down (Live)" | Spin Magazine Online

New Video: Scarlett Johansson, "Falling Down (Live)" Spin Magazine Online: "Indie-chic actress Scarlett Johansson's dreamily bizarre collection of Tom Waits covers, Anywhere I Lay My Head, falls into record stores this week featuring contributions by David Bowie and TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek, among others. To promote the record's release, the starlet-turned-singer took her cover of Waits' 'Falling Down,' originally featured on 1988's Big Time, to the cozy studios of AOL Sessions and Yahoo! Pepsi Smash for your possible viewing pleasure.
Although both videos feature Nashville-influenced instrumentation and Johansson's husky voice, the visual presentation is what sets these videos apart from each other. The AOL Sessions recording presents Scarlett and her backing band in an appropriately Hollywood manner, complete with visual clarity and panning shots, while Yahoo's video provides a more hazy, washed-out visual accompaniment as Johansson (literally) lets her hair down. Either way, the music -- never mind the concept behind it -- is singularly unique. Anywhere I Lay My Head is out now on Atco.

Man asks court to change his name to "In God We Trust"

ZION, Ill. -- Steve Kreuscher wants a judge to allow him to legally change his name. He wants to be known as "In God We Trust."
Kreuscher (CROY'-shir) says the new name would symbolize the help God gave him through tough times.
The 57-year-old man also told the (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald he's worried that atheists may succeed in removing the phrase "In God We Trust" from U.S. currency.
He recalls that the phrase "God Reigns" was removed from the Zion city seal in 1992 after courts deemed it unconstitutional. Zion was founded as a theocracy - by a sect that believed the Earth was flat.
The school bus driver and amateur artist in the northern Chicago suburb says he has filed a petition to change his name in Lake County Circuit Court.
